GFD gets new chief
GULFPORT — The Gulfport City Council today approved Mayor Schloegel’s appointment of Michael Beyerstedt to serve as the city’s next fire chief.
Beyerstedt, 48, spent more than 21 years with the Jackson, Michigan Fire Department, where his responsibilities as chief included the development, planning and implementation of a $5 million annual budget.
Gulfport’s new chief will take charge of the 12-station department sometime next month.

He currently serves as a member of the Jackson Building Board of Appeals, Office of Emergency Measures Local Emergency Planning Team Member, Jackson Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy Committee and serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Jackson YMCA.
