Gulfport to host citywide tailgate party
GULFPORT — For the first Black & Gold day, citizens were asked to wear team jerseys and shirts to work. But that was for the NFC Championship, and now, it’s time to crank it up a notch.
As the New Orleans Saints prepare for the franchise’s first Super Bowl, the City of Gulfport will be hosting a tailgate party for city employees on Friday, and Mayor George Schloegel’s office is encouraging local businesses to do the same.
The city is urging local businesses to hold their own tailgate parties outside from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Employees should bring their lawn chairs and barbecue grills to work. Cook lunch outside. Hang banners, flags or other Saints decorations outside their businesses. Play their favorite Who Dat songs on the sidewalk. Come to work decked out in their black and gold and get ready for the big game.
Then, show us how your office tailgates by emailing photos of your event to newsdesk@gulfport-ms.gov by 4 p.m.
If your business is open through the weekend or operates in the evening hours, the city urges you tailgate when it is possible and to continue the celebration through Super Bowl Sunday.
Our Saints will play the Indianapolis Colts in Miami on Sunday in Super Bowl XLIV.
The “Who Dat Nation” stretches across the Southeast, and the people of Gulfport are happy to do their part Friday, showing their support and sharing in the excitement by tailgating outside of their businesses from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
NOTE: All tailgate parties should be held within the guidelines of current city ordinances.
