The Department of Urban Development is responsible
for the creation and implementation of building codes
and land-use standards, along with overseeing housing
development and the city’s Planning and Zoning
Commission. The department has helped dozens of
families purchase their own home through partnerships,
educational programs and financial awareness classes.
In recent months, the new construction of more than 1,800 affordable homes has been approved. The department has oversight responsibility over the Office of Code Enforcement and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The department also works with residents, neighborhood groups, public agencies and other city departments to create and design plans for community form-based codes and to implement building and land-use standards once they are adopted.
